SHENZHEN, China – The year 2013 is all set to mark the launch of smartphones running on 8-core processors. If rumors are to be believed, Chinese manufacturer ZTE is already working on such a smartphone codenamed “Apache”.
This smartphone willfeature an ARM15 Mediatek chipset built with 28nm architecture. The ZTE Apache is expected to feature a 13 MP camera and a display screen with 1080p (full HD) resolution.
The launch of new smartphones with upgraded technology marks the venture of Chinese makers into the worldwide market. The smartphone market is already dominated by Korean and Japanese giants like Samsung and Sony, respectively. Chinese smartphone makers Huawei, ZTE and Lenovo already own a decent market share in their home country, but now they look forward to expand their horizons by launching high-end models like the Apache into the world market.
Mediatek is not a major brand when it comes to smartphone processors, however, it looks forward to take on giants like Nvidia and Qualcomm through its upgraded offering, possibly based on the big.LITTLE configuration discussed in a previous article.
