Vertu Luxury Services Available in Japan
Nokia reported that its luxury brand Vertu will offer its mobile services in Japan. These services cater to extravagant phones which are embellished with precious and expensive materials, the offers are an option to save important data on a military bunker, as well as a concierge service.
Vertu has contracted Nokia Siemens Networks with this landmark managed-services deal for the roll-out of the hosted Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) solution.
“Meeting the needs of customers in this segment requires a specialised approach. Vertu users the world over are discerning individuals who are willing to pay a premium for the right experience,” Tagore Ramoutar, Vertu’s director of business development for Japan and Korea, said in a statement.
Consumers from Asia, and especially from Japan have not welcomed operators and manufacturers from other countries. That is why Nokia decided to pull out of the Japanese market, however, they decided to keep Vertu, since competition for these expensive devices is minimal. These luxury phones have prices around US$5,000 and some of them are over US$300,000, therefore competition is not a problem for the kind of customers that Vertu has.
Vertu was founded in 1998 in the UK, its devices are hand-made of exclusive and expensive materials such as titanium, sapphire, gold, jewels, fine leather, and crystal. Their objective is to make mobile phones in the same vein as luxury watch manufacturers like Rolex, IWC and Patek Philippe.
