LG Octane Verizon WirelessBASKING RIDGE, USAVerizon Wireless has yet another launch under its belt, with the new LG Octane.

The design of this handset is quite unique, with a mini-LCD in front, giving it a very normal and under budget look, but flipped open like a pencil box, users get a large display, with a QWERTY keypad. The phone has quite a Nokia Communicator series feel to it, and is mainly targeted at the social networking worm. It features a widget, known as Social Beat, for direct feed with Facebook, Twittter and MySpace.

The handset houses a 3.2 megapixel camera with 3x digital zoom, with five user-defined camera mode. It also packs in a smile shot feature, upon which when the camera detects a smile, it takes the picture, while for enhanced picture output, the intelligent shot can be activated.

The LG Octane will be backed by Verizon’s network service V-cast music with Rhapsody, allowing subscribed users to download unlimited songs to their computers via the software, and then sync up to three multimedia devices for seamless data transfer.

The handset also supports basic features such as Bluetooth 2.1, a miniUSB port, Skype, a new mobile email client 4.0 and HTML web browser. It will be available from Verizon for US$99.99 after a US$50 mail-in rebate with a new two-year customer agreement.
