UK Researchers Test 10 gbps Li-Fi Connectivity

A team of researchers from the UK have been working on the Ultra-Parallel Visible Light Communications Project, and have made a breakthrough in achieving high-speed data transmission of 10 Gbit/sec via Li-Fi (Light Fidelity).

Li-Fi connectivity

Li-Fi technology makes use of LED bulbs that can transmit data in parallel streams of light and cannot be detected by the human eye.

With the electromagnetic spectrum getting denser owing to the increase in demand of wireless devices, the Li-Fi theory seems to have solved these worries and comes with faster data rate transmission as the light spectrum is 10 000 times larger than the radio spectrum.

The scientists of the institutions involved have said that almost every light source can be used for transmitting data. The technology is still undergoing research, with no release date set in mind, but similar date rates are expected from 5G networks.
