Toshiba K01 (IS02) Approved by FCC, Launches in Japan
MINATO, Japan – Toshiba’s Windows Phone K01 has been approved by US regulator FCC, hinting a possible worldwide launch nearing, while in Japan, it has already been launched as the Toshiba IS02, available at network AU.
The Toshiba K01/IS02 features a slide-out hardware keyboard, a 4.1″ touchscreen keyboard, and a 1GHz processor. It was launched at the Mobile World Congress 2010 past February as a parallel feature upgrade to the Toshiba T01, the latter launched at the Mobile World Congress 2009, February last year.
The handset supports quadband connectivity, which should allow it to operate pretty much anywhere in the world. According to the source, the testing indicates that it should be heading to Europe, Asia, while a 1900MHz version might make its way to US carrier AT&T.
It is unclear whether the IS02 will have a big success in Toshiba’s home country Japan, where the manufacturer is used to market devices with desktop-like resolution, with mobile TV, and multi-megapixel cameras.
