Facebook Fonetwish TelenorOSLO, Norway – Telenor has collaborated with U2opia Mobile to bring Facebook to mobile customers who are unable to connect to the internet, via USSD.

USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) permits users to send and receive information via a 2G network, and the most important feature, in this case, is that it does not require internet connectivity.

U2opia Mobile started sharing its platform Facebook by Fonetwish in India, and the company has in its plans until the end of the year for the platform to be shared in Malaysia and Bangladesh.

It is simple in use, fast and inexpensive for both clients and the operators, since it is a text-based platform and make use of extremely little bandwidth. This type of service has no special requirements for handsets. Moreover, that means that an old phone, which cannot have access to internet or GPRS is able to use USSD and be connected to the social network.
