Taiwanese Manufacturer Develops 12.2-megapixel Camera-Phone

Altek T8680 professional video phoneBEIJING, China – Altek has launched the T8680 “Professional Video Phone”, a mobile phone with a 12 megapixel camera and 3x optical zoom, at a conference in Beijing, China.

Little is known globally about this Asian company, but the launch of this high-end device demonstrates that global mobile phone-manufacturers are slowing down the growth and potential of this technological market.

The Altek T8680 has a 3″ touchscreen display with Wide-QVGA resolution, Bluetooth, USB connectivity, no 3G, FM radio, TV-out, PictBridge, DPOF, and support for multimedia playback. The phone weighs 135g, and its dimensions stand at 113.5x52x16.6mm.

The device’s 1020mAh battery lasts 350 hours in standby, and 4 hours in talk time.

Our source indicates that the phone even has an accelerometer (motion sensor) that is able to mute the phone, when turned on its back, similar to high-end devices sold by global mobile phone-manufacturers.

The phone’s camera-features comprise of a Xenon flash, adjustable aperture, ISO setting from 80 to 3200, smile detection, touch focus, a variety of predefined scenery settings, and video recording at a resolution of 640×480 pixels.

The Altek T8680 will be available from the end of August-beginning of September to Chinese consumers, for a price rounding 3000 Chinese Yuan, or US$439.21.
