Android Xperia open source Ice cream sandwichSTOCKHOLM, Sweden – With the MWC taking place this week in Barcelona, Sony has announced that source code from Xperia handsets will be released to developers.

The greatest hype right around the Sony devices are the recently-announced Xperia P and Xperia U, both Android 4.0-based with a lot of style to mixture.

The release of source code for the Xperia handsets includes an announcement of a beta ROM of Android Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) being made public in an effort to support the open development of apps and the release of the source code for the Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) of the sensors on Xperia phones in order for developers to improve the quality of the touch-based apps they create.
