Sony Ericsson Xperia Play Comes in White, Black for O2
SLOUGH, UK – O2 is bringing the PlayStation phone Sony Ericsson Xperia Play in two different colours for its customers: black and white.
Colours are hardly the reason customers will want to purchase this dedicated gaming phone. In fact, the reason is in the device’s name: Play. Being a PlayStation-certified smartphone gives this Xperia model an edge over its competitors, as even the hardware is built for the purpose.
Announced at the Mobile World Congress 2011, the handset confirmed many of the rumours that hinted at a PlayStation phone. It does not come with that name as it would compete against the PSP, but it gives a boost to the Xperia brand, now fully powered by Google Android.
The Xperia Play features a 4″ touchscreen display with 480×854 pixels in resolution, a touchpad that serves as joysticks usually found on PlayStation controllers, buttons from the same controllers, 512MB of RAM and a 1GHz Snapdragon processor with the Adreno 205 GPU, GPS, Wi-Fi with DLNA and hotspot, HSDPA and HSUPA, Bluetooth, microSD memory card support, and a 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus and LED flash.
O2 will make the Xperia Play available for free on a GBP 37 per month contract, or for GBP 429.99 on pre-paid. Customers may also purchase it from Amazon.
