BEIJING, China – Second largest Chinese mobile phone operator, China Unicom, announced a future addition to its gamma of Samsung smartphones. The phone this time seems a new way to combine touchscreen use with a clamshell form factor.
The model is named Samsung GT-B9120 and will be equipped with two 3.5-inch identical touchscreens. It will run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread and offer full functionality on both screens.
Other technical specifications include a 5 MP rear camera, 1.3 MP front-facing camera, a dual-core Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon processor (1.2 GHz or 1.5 GHz), HSPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 1 GB of RAM, and 16 GB of built-in storage space. It will have also a standard phone keyboard usable when the phone is open.
The combination of clamshell design and functional smartphone with a touchscreen brings a wave of fresh air in smartphone market, as from the introduction of the first iPhone, smartphone design seemed to have stuck to the candy-bar form factor.
The exact date of release of the Samsung GT-B9120 in China and globally is still unknown.
