Samsung Launches S Pen Competition, Qualcomm Gives PCs Away

Qualcomm Mobile World CongressBARCELONA, Spain – Qualcomm revealed at the MWC that its Snapdragon processor will now be joining Microsoft’s Windows on ARM developer seeding program. Samsung invited United States software developers to create an app for Galaxy Note that integrates S Pen.

To test the efficiency of the upcoming Snapdragon-powered Windows 8 on ARM PCs and Tablets, Qualcomm and Microsoft are working together to provide the select developers with test PCs. These ARM PCs, packing next-generation Snapdragon S4 will accommodate the pre-release version of Windows 8.

This program is designed to grant developers an early access to develop and test Windows Metro style apps on latest Snapdragon platform, to make sure that the apps work perfectly on all Windows 8 ARM PCs. This Snapdragon S4 chip will feature high performance and power efficient CPU, Adreno graphics accelerator, full multimedia, GPS, wireless connectivity and several other sensors.

Samsung has invited software developers, whether individuals, teams or organizations, domiciled in United States, in a contest to use S Pen SDK library and create apps for Galaxy Note that incorporate S Pen. The winners will be awarded with $205,000 in cash and prizes besides promotional exposure and recognition in Samsung digital social media.

Apps will be appraised on the general using experience of the app, the quality of the idea and operating performance. Categories include sports, entertainment, social, lifestyle, travel, games, media, education and productivity. Developers are allowed to enjoy proprietary rights of their apps and may charge for them or give them for free.
