Samsung Galaxy S III Overtakes iPhone in Sales Numbers

Samsung Galaxy S III i9300 hands-on reviewBOSTON, USA – Strategy Analytics revealed that the Samsung Galaxy S III is the world’s best-selling smartphone for Q3 2012.

Samsung’s latest flagship, the Galaxy S3, has been very popular with masses in North America, Europe and Asia. The phone recently took over Apple’s iPhone 4S in terms of most units sold in third quarter of this year, where the US corporation sold 16.2m units of the iPhone 4S in Q3 2012. Samsung was able to top the number by selling 18.0m units worldwide, partly due to the device’s large touchscreen, Samsung’s global network of distribution and generous operator subsidies.

However, Senior Executive of Strategy Analytics, Neil Mawston, says that this popularity might not last long owing to the availability of the Apple iPhone 5 in the fourth quarter of this year. The sixth-generation iPhone is said to out-ship Samsung’s device soon. With its debut in September, six million units of the smartphone have already been sold by Apple across the globe in Q3 2012.
