SAN JOSE, USA - Electronics giant Samsung has filed yet another lawsuit against its customer Apple, who is also its rival in the smartphone, tablet and computer market.
Samsung and Apple are in a tiff, with both playing the blame-game, and that too in the court of law. Apple had previously filed a lawsuit against Samsung - see Apple vs Samsung - about copying the icon layout of the iPhone on its Samsung Galaxy S handset. Now Samsung has gone and filed additional lawsuits against Apple, with ten patent infringement claims. The complaint says the patent issues "relate to fundamental innovations that increase mobile device reliability, efficiency, and quality, and improve UI in mobile handsets and various portable devices."
There are also certain patent claims, which state that "ways that a phone allows calls and Internet surfing at the same time; improvements in how text messages and attachments are sent; reductions in interference among mobile devices; and increases in the capacity of mobile networks".
Samsung is the second largest patent holder in the world, after IBM. Although Apple contributes to Samsung's revenue by purchasing semiconductors and display panels.
Apple is also fighting another lawsuit against Nokia - see Apple vs Nokia - according to which, Nokia has overcharged Apple in licensing fees compared to other companies for technologies, that Nokia offers under "fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory" terms. Apple also countersued Nokia for violating its intellectual property.
