RIM possibly Developing Video Conferencing-Capable Device

BlackBerry Storm 2WATERLOO, Canada –¬†Latest rumors concerning Research In Motion state that the smartphone-manufacturer might be looking to release a Blackberry phone with a front-facing camera, mainly for video conferencing.

Several competitor devices already carry this feature. Considering that Blackberry is a brand typically associated with the business class, it seems that RIM is running a bit late on this development. Video conferencing would allow for much more than simply contact through e-mail or phone, and open the doors for many new possibilities for Blackberry devices. This rumor began from an informal interview with an anonymous executive from RIM, by TinyComb.

The possibility of this feature brings up many questions: for instance, which devices would be getting the new feature; the RIM executive states that the new feature should be integrated in devices that will be released early next year.

At the picture to the left (courtesy of BlackBerryCool), the Storm 9500 is pictured with a front-facing camera as a possibility, which could be viewed as the Storm 2, which is rumored to be released late this year; there is also the mysterious Blackberry Onyx, with no word on any release date or official features yet.

Whichever device it debuts on, the front-facing camera would likely become a new standard for Blackberry devices, and video conferencing would be a new standard feature.
