Nvidia Tegra 4 WayneSANTA CLARA, USA – Chipmaker Nvidia is readying its next offering – the Nvidia Tegra 4 processor, also known as Wayne – which will feature a quad-core CPU and 72-core GPU.

This new GPU is also expected to be about six times faster than Nvidia’s current product, the Tegra 3, which only has 12 GPU cores.

The Tegra 4 will be built on Nvidia’s 28nm manufacturing process. The chipset will have a 4+1 architecture, which is a quad-core CPU along with a fifth companion core. The 28nm manufacturing process is not new to the semiconductor world, as Nvidia’s rival Qualcomm already adopted this for its Snapdragon S4 processor.

There is no information about the Tegra 4 processor offering LTE support. If Nvidia failed to implement this, it would be a serious disadvantage for the brand and rival Qualcomm would capitalize on this situation. The information available is not yet officially confirmed by Nvidia. However, the Tegra 4 is expected to launch early next year.
