Nook Color Android 2.2 Froyo FlashNEW YORK CITY, USA – According to the HSN website, the Nook Color will be receiving an update to allow it access to an app store and include Flash support.

Most users of the Nook have noted that the eBook reader runs on a stripped down version of the Android operating system. Many of them have rooted the device and equipped it with custom software which allows it to access the Android Market and even use Flash. However, some do not want to root their devices as there are risks involved with doing this.

The long wait is over for those users who have not rooted their devices. Sometime in April the Nook Color should release an OTA update that will give users access to apps and Flash support. The update will also include an email client and “Coming Soon” sneak peak preview of upcoming books. The device will access a Nook apps market with programs specifically built to run on the handheld.

The update should be available to version Android 2.2 Froyo sometime in April at no cost to users.
