Nokia Popularity Up in South Africa, Against Global Tendency

Nokia Sunday Times Top Brands 2012 surveyJOHANNESBURG, South Africa – The recent Sunday Times Top Brands Survey revealed that Nokia is considered the leading cell-phone brand in the business to consumer category in South Africa. Nokia has won this award several times in the past.

The award was given to Nokia based on a survey from TNS for which it interviewed 3500 consumers over the age of 18. The survey evaluated overall brand familiarity, user experience, non-user perception, and actual brand presence in the South African market.

Nokia commented that this prize is an honor, especially given that the company is in a process of restructuring and is offering completely new lines of products. The prize comes after World Wide Worx’s Mobility 2012 survey also publishing that over half of the South Africans surveyed still chose a Nokia when buying a phone.

In the previous edition of the Sunday Times Generation Next 2012 Brand Survey Awards the big winner was Blackberry, with awards for Coolest Brand Overall, Coolest Cellphone and Coolest High-Tech Gadget, clearly showing that South Africa does indeed go against global tendencies.
