ESPOO, Finland – The official release of Nokia City Lens is now available for the Lumia series, along with enhanced versions for the latest members 820 and 920.
Being a location-based augmented reality application, Nokia City Lens provides an overlay view of the surrounding buildings and landmarks along with important information about each of them. This eliminates the need to perform web searches while giving an at-a-glance understanding about nearby places of interest. Users of the Lumia 820 or Lumia 920 can also enjoy offline Nokia Maps functionality and quick GPS/GLONASS fixes without network assistance.
Leaks have revealed two former prototypes of Nokia Meego-based smartphones. The RM-742, codenamed Lauta, is in fact the cancelled immediate successor to the Nokia N9. It’s identical to the latter, except for the full hardware keyboard. The RM-581 Columbus resembling the Nokia N8, is supposedly from 2009, and features a 12MP camera with a dedicated camera key.
Whilst introducing other new features such as Ringtone Maker, Bluetooth file transfer, camera extras and internet sharing for Lumia smartphones, Nokia has also leaked a low-end substitute for the Lumia 710. Named the Lumia Flame, it’s quite similar to the Nokia Zeal, with a 1GHz dual core CPU, 512MB RAM, 4GB storage, a 4″ screen and a 5MP camera.
