Nokia 5230 Black

ESPOO, Finland – Nokia has announced the release of a new touch phone, the Nokia 5230.

The phone will run on the S60v5 touch interface; the same UI found on the Nokia 5800 and Nokia N97 models. It will have a recommended price of 149 EUR before subsidies and taxes, and feature most of the functionality found on the 5800. In some markets the package will include “Comes With Music” (adding 110 EUR to the recommended price).

The main differences compared to 5800 is that the 5230 offers no WLAN and has a 2 megapixel camera compared to the 3.2 megapixels found on the 5800. The 5230 does however include an A-GPS. It will also feature a 3.2″ screen, a 3.5 mm stereo headphone plug connector and reportedly 33 hours of playback without charging. Internal memory capacity is 70 MB. No external memory card will be included in the standard package, but the device will support regular microSD memory cards.

Many observers believe that Nokia haven’t been able to match other manufacturers’ high-end touch models in the music and imaging segment, with the iPhone being the most referenced example. With the addition of the 5230, Nokia’s offer as a whole in this segment might, however, be a tough act to follow, both regarding price and functionality. The 5230 is also Nokia’s first budget model with a touch interface.

The phone is expected to hit the stores during Q4.
