The 808 PureView makes for a great portable music and video player. The sound quality on it is impressive through earphones and even through that delightful loudspeaker. Getting music on the device can be achieved through Nokia Suite, Nokia Music, third-party players like Media Monkey and good old fashioned drag and drop. Album art is still hit or miss unfortunately, if that’s important to you. Equally, the lack of gapless playback is disappointing, and while that might some like nitpicking, one would be surprised how much music out there is made for gapless playback.

Video playback is also superb on the stunning display and the low resolution is not a problem. I had no issues with playing multiple  file-types, including FLV, which were an issue on Belle. And again, the sound quality is impressive.

Web  browsing in the device, while passable, is not the devices high-point. Equally, a lot of sites like Google serve up less feature-rich versions of their many pages. The browser is still slow to render pages relative to the competition, there is a fair amount of scrolling lag, zooming in or out could be smoother but it’s not as annoying an experience as on older Symbian devices.

The 808 PureView is primed to show off Nokia’s stellar Map Suite. The device grabs a GPS lock like Usain Bolt sprinting off to a gold medal. Nokia Maps is a stunning application, with up-to-date maps, a vastly improved point of interest database and in navigation mode, intelligent routing. The loudspeaker really shines here. It always baffles me how little interest is paid to a loudspeaker when in a situation like driving, most phones get drowned out by in-car and outside volume, and I have to gawk at the screen more than I would like, instead of just listening to the voice prompts.
