Nokia-5800-navigation-editionESPOO, Finland – Nokia’s first touchscreen device for the Symbian OS, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, will get a new incarnation when it is re-released as the Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition.

The device will be sold with lifetime voice-guided navigation licenses, both for walking and driving. Since Ovi Maps and the licenses are pre-configured for the users’ region and a car charger and the Nokia Car Kit is also included in the package; the device is ready to used for navigation out-of-the-box.

The Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition will have a slightly altered look compared to the original 5800, but will otherwise feature exactly the same hardware and features.

This launch should be seen as Nokia’s offering in the smartphone-as-navigator segment. Obvious competitors are the Garmin-Asus nüvifone and the iPhone with the TomTom application. The device is expected to sell for €285, excluding taxes and subsidies. This is a very competitive price considering the existing features of the 5800 and the the included navigation licenses and car kit. Specialized navigators (that are not mobile phones) offering the same or more navigation functionality can however be purchased for considerably less.

Nokia 5800 was originally released in November 2008. The Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition is expected to hit stores during September.
