NEC UL N08-D NTT DoCoMoTOKYO, Japan – NEC introduced a tablet weighing 249g only, the NEC Medias Tab UL N08-D, for Japanese network operator NTT DoCoMo only.

The NEC UL N08-D is said to be the lightest tab ever, comparing itself to rivals such as the Nexus 7 and the Kindle Fire HD. NEC has achieved this level of lightness by building the shell with carbon fiber, which is commonly used in aircraft construction.

Powered by Android 4.0 ICS and running on a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, it features a 7-inch display, 75Mbps downlink speed and a 3100mAh battery. It also includes an 8MP Exmor R back-lit camera and a secondary 2MP front camera. With all these specs, it measures 7.9mm only in thickness.

However, the most significant feature of the UL N08-D is HD Reverb. Created by Immersion, this software can enhance gaming and video experience by analyzing audio output and creating real-time haptic effects. In addition to a high-fidelity piezo actuator, Immersion has included its TouchSense 5000 software in the UL N08-D for better touch effects. The carbon fiber casing also enables better HD Haptics, while Immersion’s Haptic SDK will soon enable third-party developers to incorporate haptics into their own apps.
