MWC: Samsung Launches Galaxy Note 8.0

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0Mobile World Congress 2013, BARCELONA – Samsung introduced the Galaxy Note 8.0 at the MWC, an eight-inch tablet with phone capabilities.

Set to rival Apple’s 7.9-inch iPad mini, the Galaxy Note 8.0 touts 1280 x 800 pixels on its 8-inch display, giving it a pixel density of 189 pixels per inch, slightly higher than the miniature iPad’s 163 ppi display.

Under the hood, the Note 8.0 features a 1.6GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, storage starting at 32GB, and 4G LTE connectivity. The device has a 5-megapixel camera on the rear, and a 1.3-MP camera in front for video calls.

On the software-side the device comes with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean customized with the TouchWiz overlay. Like the other devices in the Note line, the Note 8.0 comes with the S Pen stylus for note taking apps.

What’s most interesting is that the Note 8.0 can make and receive phone calls, making the device the largest smartphone in the market today.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 now joins the 5-inch Galaxy Note 2 phablet and the Note 10.1 tablet in Samsung’s Note line-up.
