MWC: Glass-less 3D 10.1″ Tablets, 4.3″ Smartphones to be Announced
BARCELONA, Spain – Glass-less 3D 10.1″ tablets and smartphones with 4.3″ displays will most definitely be announced at the Mobile World Congress, given MasterImage‘s documents.
LG has confirmed its own 4.3″ LG Optimus 3D Maxx/Cube, and in mid-2011 the 7″ tablet Asus Eee Pad MeMo was confirmed to bring 3D glass-less technology. It should be a matter of days before a 10.1″ glass-less tablet is showcased by one of major manufacturers.
The screens use a patented technology called autostereoscopic 3D (AS3D), which includes cell based parallax barrier to create super sharp, clear 3D images for different kinds of 3D capable applications like movie players, games, book readers and navigation apps. The document can be downloaded from here.
The prototype 10.1″ 1920×1200 TCELL device is driven by a Texas Instruments OMAP4460 SOC mounted on a TI reference PCB and equipped with the Android OS version 4.1 (Ice Cream Sandwich). It supports touchscreen capability, but it is not included in the prototype, which is controlled via keyboard.
This announcement connected with the expectations of surprises at the coming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week, may bring to life one of the most expected features in the mobile world – glass-less 3D phones and tablets.
