ZTE and Alcatel have unveiled their first Firefox OS devices at the MWC in Barcelona, Spain. The ZTE Open sports a 3.5-inch screen and a Cortex-A5-based Qualcomm processor. The Alcatel One Touch Fire packs a 3.5-inch display and 1 GHz processor.

Instead of native apps, Firefox OS uses HTML5 apps that run on technology shared with the Firefox browser. The open-source OS, which was originally called Boot to Gecko, is designed to easily allow developers to integrate their applications to the device.

Firefox OS phones will reach consumers in the summer of 2013, and will have to compete with the more established Apple  iOS, Google Android and Microsoft Windows Phone for market share in mobile devices.
