motus_backflipGLOBAL – Motorola seems to be on a roll with its Android lineup in these recent days. Just a couple of weeks after the launch of its first Android 2.0-based Droid, another Motorola smartphone has been spotted in the wild.

Widely rumoured to be an Android-based device, the leaked handset, codenamed Motus, reveals an intriguing form factor with its reverse backflip and rear directional keypad. The new form factor is believed to be designed for gesture-based controls of Android 1.5.

Apart from the revolutionary form factor, other hardware specifications of the device have also surfaced on the web. The phone looks to be well endowed in the hardware department with its 528 MHz Qualcomm MSM7201A processor, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth,  GPS, 512MB ROM and 256MB of RAM.

With a 3.1″ display that has 320×480 pixels in resolution (Half-VGA), and 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, the imaging capabilities of Motus are spot-on as well. It supports quadband GSM and five W-CDMA bands in connectivity, therefore the Motus can be expected to be launched in both GSM and CDMA versions as and when it is made available.

With an onslaught of Android devices, Motorola is making a desperate attempt at widening its presence in the handset segment, where at once it held a formidable position. Whether Motorola will be able to make a come back with its Android series of devices will largely depend upon pricing and launch timings.
