Developments on BlackBerry Storm 2 Rumors

Verizon BlackBerry Storm 2WATERLOO, Canada – Research In Motion had a notable success with the original Storm 9500 that debuted last November. Verizon Wireless reportedly sold 1.5 million of the devices in its first quarter of release, due in part to the large marketing effort from RIM and Verizon.

The device’s release was somewhat disappointing to many users who expected a revolutionary device or an ‘iPhone killer’, but sales were strong and returns low. The Storm 2 is rumored to be released in Europe by Vodafone in October, and by Verizon in the US in November. The release date of the new 9550 would be similar to that of the first model, and would make sense for the upgraded device.

The Storm 9550 will supposedly keep the SurePress ‘clickable’ screen, although there are many different rumors on this. Removal of the unique touchscreen would be illogical for RIM, as it is the prominent feature that separates it from other touchscreen devices. Additions to the new model should include a memory boost, on-screen call/menu/end buttons, and finally, Wi-Fi.

The exclusion of Wi-Fi was quite a disappointment for Storm users, but it seems that RIM is finally getting it right with the 9550. The new device should come standard with the yet-to-be released OS 5.0, and have a few aesthetic changes as well. The BlackBerry Storm 2 should be released by the upcoming holiday season.
