Jolla demonstrates Sailfish OS with SDK
HELSINKI, Finland – Jolla has finally demonstrated its Linux-based Sailfish OS, with its innovative user interface at the Slush event held in Finland.
The company, which will give continuity to Nokia’s Meego, also announced the availability of the Sailfish Software Development Kit (SDK) for the community, and that ST-Ericsson would be supporting the platform in its NovaThor platforms.
The Sailfish UI is designed keeping in mind users’ need for effortless multitaksing between running applications and ability to interact with the apps from Home. The UI also provides information right at-hand, and allows personalization to match a user’s style and mood without much hassle.
For the community, Jolla claims Sailfish is greatly adaptable and can support smartphones, tablets, Smart TVs, automotive and other similar devices. Jolla has encouraged developers to participate and build apps for the new OS. The SDK, which consists of Mer Core’s tools, Qt Creator, Jolla UI components, Sailfish UI framework and Salfish handset app interfaces, is available at the official website.
