Nokia Messaging push emailNEW DELHI, India – The Department of Telecommunications of India has issued a blanket ban on all encrypted push mail services in the country starting with the Nokia Messaging service.

This follows the discussions with RIM regarding Blackberry push mail service. The government of India wants full control over the communications channels and essentially wants the ability to decrypt any message it wants. This will allow for better security as the government officials will be able to access suspicious emails.

The government is also making certain amendments to the Information Technology Act under which the telecom operators will have to keep a tab on emails and will be required to be able to IP addresses of suspicious emails with specific keywords to the government on a real time basis.

As of now the Nokia Messaging push email service is still active as the company has agreed to cooperate with the government in any way possible.
