HTC ButterflyTAOYUAN, Taiwan – Smartphone-maker HTC has unveiled the HTC Butterfly for international markets and is readying the HTC M7 for the first quarter of 2013.

The HTC Butterfly is a GSM variant of HTC’s first full-HD smartphone. The HTC Butterfly sports similar specs as the J Butterfly that was unveiled in Japan in October, and the Droid DNA released for the Verizon network in the U.S. mid-November.

Available in the European and Asian markets, the HTC Butterfly features a five-inch screen with a 1080p full HD resolution, translating to an ultra-high 440ppi pixel density. In comparison, the older HTC One X offers 312 ppi, Apple iPhone 5‘s highly touted Retina display has 326ppi, and the Nokia Lumia 920 just has 332 ppi.

The device also packs high-end features, such as a quad-core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm processor, an 8MP camera with advanced optics at the back of the device, and a 2.1MP front facing camera that records HD video. The device is expected to be running on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

HTC hasn’t confirmed the specs and the release date of its upcoming high-end device, dubbed the HTC M7.

Reports say that the HTC M7 is expected to have high-end specs like a 5-inch HD display, a uni-body aluminum shell, a Qualcomm quad-core processor and an eye-popping 13MP camera.

According to reports, HTC has been in talks with suppliers in order to pursue an accelerated launch of the new smartphone. If released in the first quarter, the HTC M7 would go against the fourth iteration of Samsung’s top selling Galaxy S smartphone.
