BASKING RIDGE, USA – HTC has finally released the kernel source code for Verizon’s first LTE 4G phone, the Thunderbolt.
HTC has been debating with the Android community for some time now about releasing the code for the HTC Thunderbolt 4G. Many device manufacturers are trying to keep their devices as close to their settings as possible. While this will not stop most Android hacking fans, it does make things a bit more tricky.
Releasing this source code will allow developers within the Android community to begin work on custom ROMs for the device. Details are vague on whether or not the code includes the 4G coding which would allow for a complete ROM using the 4G data.
The Thunderbolt 4G’s source code is now available from HTC and weighs around 87 MB.
