Hitachi’s HD Mobile Phone Begins Retailing in Japan
CHIYODA, Japan – The Hitachi Mobile Hi-Vision Cam WOOO is a mobile phone supporting video capture at 720p HD resolution. It will be retailed through AU, by Japanese network operator KDDI.
The phone features a 5 megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom, a 1seg TV tuner, HDMI output, and has the ability to record 4 hours of HD video on a 8GB microSD memory card.
In order to capture at this resolution, the phone will make use of the 3GPP2 video codec, which will not provide the quality of a professional HD video camera, but a satisfactory one, according to our source.
The Hi-Vision Cam WOOO isn’t the first mobile phone to offer HD video recording; the Samsung i8910 OmniaHD also does offer video recording at 720p at 24fps.
Japanese mobile phones are known to be more advanced than European or North-American devices, offering displays with larger resolution, and a wider availability of mobile TV, at a cheaper price.
