Forum Nokia Announces Winners of Calling All Innovators Contest
STUTTGART, Germany – Forum Nokia, the world’s largest mobile developer community, announced the winners of its global mobile developer competition “Calling all Innovators” on the eve of Nokia World 2009. The contest which attracted around 1,700 submissions from developers and publishers across 85 countries was a successful campaign for developers and Nokia alike.
The winners of the contest take home cash awards and several other prizes including premium placement of the winning applications in Nokia’s Ovi Store. The total worth of these awards is in excess of US$ 250,000, making it one of the most lucrative innovation competition for mobile developers. In an awards reception held in Stuttgart last evening, winners in three of the four different categories were announced. The winner of the fourth category will be announced on September 3rd.

Internet Innovation: Tech Buzz Homescreen Widget
The populat widget from UK-based Mippin, is an innovative and fast way to access the latest tech news from around the world directly on Nokia mobile devices. The N97 homescreen widget displays dynamic headlines and images on the homescreen.
Flash: Reuters Slideshow
Another UK-based company, Tui Interactive Media, won the best application in the flash category for its Reuters Slideshow application. The app which combines Flash and WRT widget functionality delivers a constantly updated feed of pictures and news directly on to Nokia mobile devices, and with the WRT functionality translates into continuous updates on the homescreen of supported devices, such as the N97.
Emerging Markets and Mobile Necessities: Mobile Credit Card Terminal
Based in the financial hub of Southeast Asia, Singapore 2C2P‘s Mobile Credit Card Terminal offers an innovative terminal for businesses to deal with credit/debit cards. The application enables business establishments to manage transactions directly from Nokia S60 devices in absence of any additional hardware.

Winners in this exclusive category haven’t been announced yet but Nokia has revealed that 14 developers were screened from the initial idea proposal round and provided with Ovi Beta SDK for implementation in their applications. Winners will be announced on September 3rd for this category at Nokia World.
Special Recognition Award: MoBots
MoBots from DEIMOS Space based in Madrid, Spain was awarded the Special Recognition Award for innovation that included a cash prize of US$10,000. MoBots, which are easily configurable automations, can be used by programmers and non-programmers alike to develop practieal applications with appealing visual interfaces on Nokia mobile devices.
The innovation challenge is yet another indication from Nokia showing its determination to concentrate on the services segment for its devices. The new age mobile operating systems have changed the way manufacturers think about their products and the gap between manufacturers and service providers is gradually decreasing with an increasing number of manufacturers opening up with the developer community. The trend first started by Apple with its WWDCs increasingly being followed by other manufacturers and is set to benefit the manufacturers, developers and the consumers in the immediate future.
