CNN Investigates: Conditions at iPhone-making Foxconn Factories

CHENGDU, China – An investigation by CNN reviews alarming facts about the Sichuan plant of Foxconn, a part of Taiwan’s Hon Hai Precision Industry Co, one of the major suppliers of Apple. The investigation was triggered by a slew of suicides in 2010 at the company’s Shenzhen plant in China.

An employee of Foxconn, interviewed under a false name stated that 60 hours a week, working on an assembly line and applying stickers is a common work case. She stated also that the workers of the plant have a seeing “they use women as men and men as machines.” Those statements are backed by rights’ groups such as China Labor Bulletin and Students and Scholars against Corporate Misbehavior, who accuse Foxconn of military-like culture in its plants.

In press releases both Foxconn and Apple are stating that they are putting all the needed efforts to guarantee a safe and positive working environment for their employees in China.
