Cellphone Interference Still a Worry for Some Pilots
GLOBAL – It is a well known that passengers boarding a flight will be asked to turn off their mobile devices as they interfere with the airline equipments. However, the wider usage of smartphones and tablets is turning into a worrisome affair for some airline pilots.
Radio signals emitted from the mobile device of a single passenger may cause interference in the airline equipments, according to some pilots’ suspicions.
There have been some cases of these incidents in the recent years but they go unverified for the cause of interference. With the growth in technology, airlines are divided in their opinion on passengers’ electronics usage. While some airlines welcome gadgets users onboard, others cite various safety measures to ban their usage.
It is still not concluded as to whether there is any real interference in aircraft equipment caused by electronic gadgets. It is also a generalized argument that the decision should be driven by scientific tests rather than personal opinions and passenger preferences.
