blackberry-storm-press-imageNetherlands – A RIMĀ Channel Sales manager has confirmed that the BlackBerry Storm 2 will be launched by KPN, and not by Vodafone, unlike its predecessor. The phone will be launched to compete against the upcoming Apple iPhone.

The Storm 2 will have a physical keyboard, and will solely rely on a touchscreen; good news for those who prefer to have a real keyboard for faster text entry, which increases productivity.

The actual name, unlike the date, is not yet confirmed, RIM’sĀ Alain Segond von Banchet told Tweakers.

The BlackBerry Storm began selling in the US by Verizon Wireless, and was soon expanded to the rest of the world by Vodafone, and other network operators. An upgrade to the device series, or even a continuation, hasn’t been mentioned by any other official from RIM, or from an official from any network which sold the first Storm.

The main competitors to this multimedia-business phone are the Samsung Omnia, HTC Touch Diamond, and Apple iPhone 3G.
