BlackBerry Storm 2 Launching Sooner than Expected

BlackBerry Storm 2 9550 vs storm 9500WATERLOO, Canada – It seems that the Blackberry Storm 2 will be hitting store shelves sooner than what previous reports indicated.

The first Storm was released in late November last year, just in time for the year’s holiday season. Rumors and pictures of the new 9550 device indicated a similar release date.

The 9500 marked the first touchscreen device to be released by Research In Motion. The 9550 probably won’t see as much success as the original Storm due to some mixed feelings over the device’s innovative SurePress clickable-capacitive touchscreen. It did caused some issues, such as minor light leakage. The biggest differences for the new device are its Wi-Fi capabilities, and the inclusion of the main buttons on the touch screen.

This of course leads to further speculation on other models. There’s the rumored BlackBerry 9990 device that could be a new version of the Bold. With the success of the Storm and Bold, there is a possibility that RIM could be making a new touchscreen device – a second Bold model or perhaps even a new series.

Considering that there is nothing official to report on the rumored device, users shouldn’t expect to see a release date for it anytime soon. RIM will be pushing the Storm 2 9550 for both Verizon and Vodafone in November and December, respectively. Thus, there isn’t a good chance for a brand new device to be released anywhere close to the same time period.
