BlackBerry Intercepting Email Credentials with BlackBerry 10

GLOBAL – A German blogger revealed that BlackBerry is storing information in its server log for POP/IMAP email credentials entered on a BlackBerry 10 phone.

BlackBerry 10 IMAP POP email credentials

The manufacturer accumulates this information on a server with IP 68.171.232.33 without the knowledge or consent of the user. This issue does not involve BBM, push messaging, pin messaging or any other BB service but only relates to users’ private IMAP/POP credentials on a standard BB 10 phone.

While RIM stores all that personal information unaccountably, it may allow access to information to agencies like NSA and GCHQ, as Canada is a member of “Five Eyes”, an alliance group between interception agencies of UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.

The blog suggests anyone using private IMAP/POP should delete their email accounts from BB 10 devices, change their email password and use any other alternative mail program like K9Mail.
