Bada Student Developer Challenge 2011LONDON, UK – The start of September saw the beginning the Bada Student Developers Challenge, which had been made available to students studying at nine of the leading universities in the UK and offered the winners prize money totalling more than £15 000.

On the 23rd January 2012 the challenge came to a close with the students at the universities having spent many months working hard, developing and touring the country.

Students at the universities were each visited by the UK Bada team members and were set up and given an introduction to the challenge and what it would involve.

The teams that finally won the challenge could expect to receive an incredible range of prizes including promotion for any of the finalists that provide Samsung Apps with an app as well as a variety of test devices. The grand final of the challenge was held at the BAFTA HQ and twelve teams made it through to this last stage.

In the final, which was hosted by Keith O’Brien, the head of content at Samsung Mobile, the student teams had to pitch their concepts and ideas to the judges who then had to choose the winning team.

The size of the student teams ranged from one to five in each group and each group had manage to take their app from the idea stage right through to the coding and creation of the completed app whilst having to continue with their degree coursework at the same time.

The winning team was Quartic Llama from the University of Abertay, Dundee with their scrolling shooter game, Moeba and the runners up were The Time Is Now from the University of York with the ‘Don’t be lazy’ app.
