MILDURA, Australia – The Apple iOS 6 Maps debacle hit a new low recently when the Australian police issued a warning against its usage.
Recent incidents involved motorists relying on Apple Maps to go off track from their desired destination. The mapping system puts Mildura in the middle of Murray Sunset National Park. However, in reality, Mildura is about 70 kilometers away from the park.
Users drifting away to the National Park may face adverse conditions in there. It is reported that there is no water supply close to the region. It is also a semi-arid region where temperatures may rise as high as 46 degree Celsius. Mildura is a tourist town and there is a good chance that this system may endanger the lives of tourists visiting the town for the first time.
Few incidents reported in that location prompted the Mildura police department to issue a warning against the use of the iOS 6 mapping system. Apple has also been notified regarding this issue and is expected to rectify it soon. In the meantime, users are asked to use alternate mapping systems for their travels.
Update-1: Apple has corrected the reported problem.
