Apple Disagrees over Nano-SIM Standard

Apple Nokia RIM Motorola nano SIMNICE, France – Following the proposal for the development of next generation SIM standard, Apple is now directly in competition with Nokia, Motorola and RIM together over the nano-SIM modulation.

The Financial Times reported that the nano-SIM card designed by Cupertino giant is in contest with Nokia’s card. The competing design introduced by Nokia and apparently endorsed by Motorola and RIM is stated to have significant technical advantages over Apple’s design.

It is still too soon to comment upon which company’s design is the best as the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) will be voting on the nano-SIM next week. Apple is making serious efforts to increase the number of its votes considerably by enlisting six different European subsidiaries as voting bodies. Each of these subsidiaries would be allowed 45 votes. At present, Nokia is residing at the top with 92 votes but the situation could be changed very soon.

Regardless of whoever wins the competition, this new nano-SIM will mean new cards, new adapters and changes for carriers, all the same.
