Amazon Fire TV Runs on Android-based Fire OS Mojito

SEATTLE, USA – Amazon has made an entry in the world of digital television with the launch of its Amazon Fire TV, which runs on the Android-based Fire OS Mojito.

The new gadget from Amazon is likely to compete with popular products like Apple TV, Roku 3 and Google Chromecast. The highlight of this set-top-box are its gaming capabilities, which offer the hardware for seamless video gaming experience and a smoother UI. An optical gaming controller is provided for the same.

Taking a dig into its specs, the Amazon Fire TV comes with 2GB RAM, offers 8GB internal storage and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chipset clocked at 1.7GHz on a Krait 300 CPU with a Adreno 320 GPU for graphics support.

Looking at its connectivity options, the device offers dual-antenna Wi-Fi, type A HDMI having an output resolution of 1080p, a 5.5mm DC jack, USB 2.0, optical audio and Bluetooth 4.0.

The OS is an altered version of Android, named Fire OS Mojito. It offers voice search features that let users search for television shows and movies at ease.

Amazon Prime will be a major contender for the content that comes with popular services like Netflix, Showtime Anytime, Hulu and many more. The Fire TV can be operated with a remote control that accepts voice commands.

Moreover, there is a pool of free and paid games that are available. Amazon has launched this Fire TV with a price value of $99 and the optional gaming controller costs $39.99.
