RIM launches Web-based App World

BlackBerry App World Web PortalWATERLOO, Canada – Research In Motion has launched another way for users to access the App World. The mobile application program which received a major update just a few weeks ago, is now fully accessible online and is basically the exact same as it is on any Blackberry device.

This is of course a way for RIM to catch up with Apple’s App Store which has been going strong for over a year now. Apple seems to have a strong lead in this aspect of the smartphone market, but RIM is catching up with frequent updates and innovations. There is also the possibility for RIM to attach the App World directly to the desktop manager, which will be getting an update in September allowing the application to work on Mac computers.

The App World web portal is better then the mobile version, in the sense that it shows a lot more on the front page, rather than tabs that need to be gone through. The drawback is that apps can’t be directly downloaded. Once the app is found, userS can enter their email, and have the link to the download page sent to their mobile device. This isn’t a horrible downside, but there are more effective methods.

In related news, Fortune magazine has named Research In Motion the world’s fastest growing company. This is great news for the smartphone conglomerate who still has lots of room for improvement. Their innovation in technology seemingly will continuously grow, making products more accessible to a wider audience.
