BlackBerry Developing Watch Phone, New Bold

Blackberry Bluetooth WatchWATERLOO, Canada – The latest rumours from the smartphone manufacturer reveal the next versions of the Storm and Bold, and a possible new direction for RIM.

This bold new possibility is the Bluetooth watch market. The rumors speculate on a Bluetooth watch that would be capable of receiving information such as SMS messages, alerts from social networks such as Facebook, email, as well as send information to either a Bluetooth headset or the user’s car stereo via FM frequency signals. Other phone companies such as LG and Samsung have had success with similar devices, but the market isn’t a huge one yet, which would explain RIM’s late arrival to it. The news came from a RIM executive who attended the Blackberry Conference earlier this year.

More news has come on the BlackBerry Storm 2 9550, which is expected to be released this October. There were early rumors that RIM was doing away with the SurePress touchscreen, and resort back to a regular capacitive ‘non-clickable’ screen. These are completely untrue, however, it does seem that the smartphone’s screen is being redone, but it is yet unclear completely how (apart from the elimination of light leakage and the inclusion of the main function buttons on the screen). There are also some changes to the details of the device’s exterior, such as rubber convenience keys, a new latch for the battery door, and new chrome plating.

Lastly, there have been several rumors indicating a new Bold, with the model number 9700. There have been lots of speculation on its capabilities, the possibility of it being a new touchscreen model, as well as its very existence. The latter is finally brought to an almost definitive answer: the BlackBerry Bold 9700 has supposedly been added to Canada Bell’s inventory system. This indicates a release is soon to come.¬†Even though this is good news for BlackBerry enthusiasts, these still have a while to wait, as there has been no official announcement, and RIM may not make one for a few months.
