An accompanying app will use a smartphone’s Bluetooth capabilities to track one’s keys, luggage at an airport, remote control, users’ dogs or even their kids.

The app’s radar screen, although unable to pinpoint the exact location, will estimate how far away the objects with the stickers are. A second feature, called the virtual leash, allows the phone owner to set an alarm to sound whenever a sticker moves a predetermined distance away. A third feature, dubbed find it, helps to locate any items that are out of range.

The StickNFind stickers have a range of up to 100 feet and a replaceable battery that lasts for a year on 30-minutes-per-day of average use.

Conceived by John Mitts, an engineer at SSI America, the StickNFind stickers are about the size of a quarter and weigh less than an ounce. The stickers are not waterproof though, so users won’t be able to find devices that are dropped in water. The system was first shown on crowd-funding website Indiegogo where it had a $70 000 funding goal, and it currently stands close to $200 000 with more than a month to go.
