Ubuntu Phone OS Development Underway
ISLE OF MAN, Great Britain – In a recent job posting, Canonical, the major developer of the Ubuntu OS, reveals its plans to develop an Ubuntu-based operating system for smartphones.
It isn’t the first attempt for Canonical to reach out to smartphone users, given its Ubuntu for Android project.
It seems that the work name of the project is Ubuntu Phone OS and it requires an experienced and knowledgeable Business Development Manager, which is required to create the needed contacts with phone vendors and telecommunications companies alike. He is also expected to establish a commercial ecosystem around Ubuntu as a smartphone OS and drive awareness of it across key industry decision makers.

This is not the first time that Canonical and Ubuntu try to go mobile. One of the most serious previous attempts was Ubuntu Mobile, which ended in 2009. There were several projects that followed including mobile distributions such as Kubuntu Mobile and the ARM version of Ubuntu. It is also notable that any high-end Android phone is completely comparable with Ubuntu OS and both environments are able to work simultaneously.
