Dingleberry BlackBerry Playbook jailbreakWATERLOO, Canada – Adrian Stone, the Director of the BlackBerry Security Incident Response Team in a recent post in BlackBerry for Business Blog clarified the position of Research in Motion (RIM) on the subject of BlackBerry Playbook jailbreaking .

It is not a surprise that the practice is discouraged and the users of BlackBerry smartphones are advised not to install any jailbreaking tools on their devices. Users are also reminded that jailbreaking compromises any valuable data on their BlackBerry phones, it may cause them to malfunction or work less stable and last, but not least it voids the warranty.

Adrian Stone also explains the procedure that RIM follows, when jailbreaking is detected – the company issues a security advisory and patches the vulnerability in BlackBerry firmware with a future update. This is a similar story to the jailbreak exploits cat and mouse game conducted by Apple in their attempts to patch holes in their iOS with regular software updates. Those procedures, however, still fail to stop users that wish to install unauthorized apps or to use their smartphones unlocked.
