Samsung CMOS BSI Backside Illumination S5K3H7SEOUL, South Korea – In an effort to improve the quality of pictures in certain conditions, as well as a range of other improvements, Samsung has released a new high-end 8 megapixel CMOS imaging sensor that has been designed for use in both digital cameras and mobile handsets.

The 1/3.2 inch 1.4um image sensor, which has been named S5K3H7, has the ability to improve the quality of pictures that are taken in poor lighting conditions using Backside Illumination technology (BSI).

As well as being designed to be more energy efficient the new sensor from Samsung will also let users take pictures the moment they press the shutter button as there is no shutter lag. Users will also benefit from 1080p full HD Video recording at 30 frames per second (fps) on any device using this new sensor.

Samsung has advised that it will be a few months before devices like smartphones and digital cameras are released with these new sensors inside them.
