Nike+ GPS iPhone appPRETORIA, South Africa – Tuesday afternoon Sean Dunn‘s iPhone was stolen from the gym. Later that night, the thief was arrested by police, indebted to his ignorance about iPhone and its apps.

The owner guided police from Olympus in eastern Pretoria to a property in Mamelodi through an iPad and a map on which the phone’s movement could be traced.

The thief would be brought to Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Friday, according to Police spokesperson Captain Marissa van der Merwe.

When Sean Dunn was unable to find his phone in gym, he blocked it and had it blacklisted. At night, Dunn’s wife told him she saw on Facebook that he went for jogging.

Dunn had activated Nike+ GPS app, which automatically comes up on his phone, and the thief probably unknowingly pressed “yes”. The owner then looked on the internet with an iPad to find his phone by using iCloud, and the GPS app, accurate to within 2m, which he had on his phone.

Understandably, he went to Garsfontein police station and reported the events. While, two policemen went to the location, Dunn directed them through the telephone. The police found the accused thief, a contracted cleaner at the gym, in the backyard of a property.
