Windows 8 tabletREDMOND, USA – Microsoft has been releasing bits-and-parts of its upcoming operating system Windows 8 in the past couple of months, but a bit of full blown glory can be seen in the upcoming Windows 8 tablet build, with the developer version already out.

There are few questions about Windows 8, such as the new Windows Start screen, the app store, touch navigation and the works. The best way to show all this was by releasing the developer version of Windows 8 on a brand new tablet. The Windows 8 Developer preview released on a Samsung tablet powered by an Intel iCore i5 processor, and the OS seems to be slick at the moment.

The preview of Windows 8 was not the only exciting aspect at the Microsoft Build Conference, every attendee of the event was handed a Samsung Windows Developer PC to test-drive development on a preview release of Windows 8. Although the device in question is said to be a prototype, in reality the device is a near-identical build of the Samsung Series 7 Slate PC model number 7001TA.

The Samsung tablet boasts of specs such as Intel iCore 5 1.6GHz processor, 4GB DDR3 RAM, HDMI output, Samsung Super PLS display 11.6-inch screen with a native resolution of 1366×768, a 64 GB SSD, and USB 3.0.

The retail price of each Windows 8 tablet handed-out is close to US$1099, so roughly Microsoft is giving away goods worth $5 million.
